Hi. I'm a stay-at-home mom—when I'm not working. I work 'gigs' as an on-site kids sports photographer, so definitely not a 9-to-5. I've gotta say, being a full-time parent is by far the most challenging and most fulfilling job I have ever had.
Mae's daddy was laid off a couple months ago. It is so nice to have him back home from those business trips, but in the meantime... eek!
My super-awesome kid, Mae Beatrix, was born on January 19, 2010. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
So Mae’s bedroom has a loose forest theme, mostly utilizing Circo’s Love & Nature line. One of the things that they sell is an adorable little LED mushroom night light.

It charges with an outlet adapter during the day, and she sleeps with it at night. She sometimes carries it around with her around the house to keep her company.

If I ever forget to give it to her at bedtime, she yells, “MUSHROOMLIGHTMUSHROOMLIGHT!” until it is safely in her grasp. I think it’s pretty adorable. She’s never had a real connection with any one blankie or stuffed animal… this is the closest she’s come to having a consistent comfort object.
The internet tells me that it is “No Longer Available for Purchase,” otherwise I would include a link to buy. It’s possible that the line is being discontinued. Oh, well.
Next month is when I was planning on conceiving again. It felt like ages away when I originally planned it. But here it is, and Mae is 2 years and 4 months old, almost. She’ll be ready to be a big sister soon. It’s easy to talk, but I’m realizing how scary it is actually planning a child. We didn’t plan Mae. Honestly, that’s easier! Ha ha.
I told Joe as soon as he finds a job we can start looking at houses & have another kid. I just don’t want to be in my 3rd trimester in the Arizona summer, hence the planning.
Dropped this off secretly at my parents’ home yesterday. A 6” anthurium & a 4” croton in pots I picked out for them, a couple Truffle Pig chocolate bars, and a thank you card for being the best grandparents in the world.
I love them! It is so nice to have parents who are so willing to help out with my girl.
I made the same annoyed observation when I first saw this, only I was too lazy to blog about it myself.I went into our local Lego store while I was waiting on something at the mall the other day. The guy there asked me, “Can I help you with something?” and I said, “Yeah, I might get something for my daughter…” He pointed to the back corner of the store and said “Oh, we just got some new sets in for girls.”
Apparently girls aren’t allowed to play with regular Lego anymore, because “Lego For Girls” is in special purple boxes, and the figures all have special hair, and instead of being houses, or cars, or spaceships, or boats, they are kitchens. Accessories include cakes, plates, glasses, and milk. I’m surprised it didn’t come with lipstick and a hair dryer. Oh, wait, it does, it’s just in another set.
Oops! Mae tweeted some gibberish from my phone yesterday.
This morning, Mae said she wanted “Twinkle Little Star” for breakfast. She was just making a two-year-old’s joke, but I made her what she wanted anyway.
Mae is pleased with daddy’s pink Play-doh dog.
Two years old & already an athlete!

Is it sad that tonight I consider going to bed at 4:25am to be early? This whole week I’ve been going to bed ridiculously late and getting only a few hours of sleep. I hope I readjust back to normal soon.
Husband comes home tomorrow. I have missed him these past 44 days. That’s almost an eighth of a year, for one stupid business trip! Hopefully it’ll be the last one. We can’t take much more of it. I can’t wait to see him!
It is the hardest job in the world, but the most rewarding. It’s hard to describe… I’m definitely not my own boss—a tiny insane person is my boss!
I would miss her terribly if I worked full-time, yet a part of me can’t wait until she’s in school so I can (sort of) have my life back! There is still so much I want to do, but I’ll gladly put that on hold until I feel I can spend more time away from my girl.
It’ complicated. :)
